Happy 50th Stage Anniversary, Marianne Faithfull! ♥ 1964 - ∞
It was fifty years ago that Marianne Faithfull released her first single "As Tears Go By" penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards which launched her career and subsequently tumultuous life. The ups and downs of Marianne’s life have been well-documented, so I don’t want to repeat them again. The most important part is that she’s always come out on top and continues to make beautiful music - and films, and books - that enchants people around the world including myself.
When I first heard that voice it touched me so deeply that I immediately had to hear more and know more about that woman who with one song made me feel someone finally understood me. For the past five years I immersed myself in Marianne Faithfull’s work, have travelled all over the continent to see her in concert and have been very lucky to be able to tell her personally how much all of it means to me. She’s been incredibly kind to me and this blog is really just a small way of giving back to an artist who has helped me so much.
If there’s one thing that can be said it’s that Marianne’s work is criminally underrated. Her masterpiece “Broken English” never appears on any best albums list, she hasn’t been nominated for any relevant music award in forever and some people still think of her as some rockstar ex-girlfriend with a sad life. Luckily her amazing and dedicated fanbase around the world knows much better, so I’m hoping you will all join me in sending lots of love to our Marianne and wishing her a very happy anniversary year. x Maggie | Faithfull Forever
