Marianne Faithfull & (Album) Eras ⏩ “Broken English” (1979)
After a decade of hardships, adventures in acting and commercially unsuccessful albums Marianne made a triumphant comeback with the album “Broken English” in 1979. It is critically acclaimed and features some of her most well-known songs such as the title track, “The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan” and the infamous “Why D’ya Do It” that was banned in Australia because of its explicit lyrics.
To promote the album a 12-minute long short film was created by director Derek Jarman which, at a time before MTV got its start, was very cutting-edge. It features the songs “Witches’ Song”, “The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan” and “Broken English”.
